British Airways i360 impressive engineering and design

I was lucky enough to get a trip on the British Airways i360, 12 year in the making, piece of outstanding engineering and architecture.

Designed by the same people that created the London Eye, David Marks MBE and Julia Barfield MBE, it reaches a height of 450 feet (138m) travelling at 0.4 metres per second.

It was so smooth I haven’t realised it had taken off!  It’s the tallest structure in Brighton and on a good day, you can see for 26 miles away!

The tower is acknowledged by the Guinness World Records as the world’s most slender tower with a height to width ratio of more than 40:1

The video Below is interactive if using Google Chrome, drag your finger or mouse across.

During the day the ‘flight’ will last 20 minutes, enough time to have a glass of Sussex wine or Sussex beer (Harvey’s no less!) and admire the views across Brighton, the South Downs National Park and of course the great English Channel.  After 6pm the flight will last 30 minutes, enough time for two drinks?

Buy the tickets online in advance to get the cheapest rates, although check the weather forecast.  The day I went it was very overcast and drizzly!

Apparently the plan is for Brighton and Hove city Council to receive £1m p.a. revenue from supporting this attraction.  A good return on guaranteeing this project.
